Meet Lee
Artist. Rancher. Horsewoman. Host. And a few other things.
If you spend much time around the ranch, you’ll probably find Lee doing one of several things: checking on cattle, checking on the garden, tending to the chickens and ducks, riding horses, painting, or thinking about what needs to be done next.
She’s not particularly good at sitting still.
Lee Blakeney is the owner of the ranch where the Texas Cabin is located, and she has created a place that reflects the things she loves — wide-open spaces, animals, art, horses, gardening, and a good dose of Texas sunshine. And yes, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see some of those things during your stay.
The ranch
A Ranch with a Little Bit of Everything
The ranch is a living and active piece of Texas, with cattle, horses, chickens, ducks and a large garden. It’s not a staged version of country life. It’s simply life as Lee knows it. And because it’s a real ranch in the Palo Duro Canyon country, there are plenty of wild residents too — aoudad, wild turkeys, porcupines, rabbits and other wildlife can all make an appearance.
Lee lives nearby and is available if you need anything during your stay — but she’s also pretty good at giving guests their space. After all, a getaway should feel like a getaway.
The artist
Art Has Always Been Part of the Story
Lee has spent much of her life painting the places and things she knows best — landscapes, horses, cattle and the wide-open country around Creekwood.
Her work has taken her beyond the ranch as well, with studios and connections in Canyon, Amarillo and Santa Fe. She is a member of the New Mexico Plein Air Artists and serves on the board of Arts in the Sunset in Amarillo.
You’re not simply staying in a vacation rental decorated with somebody else’s idea of “Western style.” You’re surrounded by original work created by someone who actually lives, works and finds inspiration in this part of the country.
Horses are another story
Three-Time World Champion
Lee has spent years riding and showing horses in the English style — and apparently wasn’t content to simply enjoy it. She’ll probably tell you that story much more modestly than we just did. For Lee, horses have always been part of life rather than a trophy on the wall.
One more thing
And Then There's the Beauty Business…
Because apparently ranching, painting and horses didn’t keep her busy enough, Lee is also a top distributor for SeneGence, a skincare and makeup line. Her guests get a small taste of that side of her, too: you’ll find shampoo and conditioner waiting for you in the cabin.
She likes people to be comfortable. She likes things to be nice. And she enjoys sharing the things she loves.
Mostly, Lee just likes a good life
Lee has built a life around the things she loves — and Creekwood is a chance to share a little bit of that life with you.
Come stay for the canyon views. Enjoy the cabin. Take in the art. Watch the horses. Say hello to the chickens. And if you happen to run into Lee while she’s headed somewhere with a paintbrush in one hand and something else that needs doing in the other, don’t be surprised. That’s just Lee.
